On September 15, we launched our first themes hackathon with over $30,000 in cash prizes. Since that time, teams around the world have accepted the challenge to build website themes and list them in HubSpot's Template Marketplace. After a rigorous scoring process involving nine separate judges, we are thrilled to announce the official results of the competition.
If you participated in this challenge, we recognize the tremendous effort that went into submitting an entry. Whether you win a prize or not, we hope that having a template in the marketplace is a financially rewarding investment for your team.
Without further ado, here is an overview of the judging process, and a list of the prize winners.
Brief Overview of The Scoring Process
To keep this challenge as objective as possible while encouraging best practices, separate judging panels reviewed themes in three different categories:
• Design & Usability
• Comprehensiveness
• Technical Optimization
Each panel included three separate judges (9 total). After reviewing themes, individual judges could award up to 25 points based on pre-set criteria. This means each theme could receive a maximum of 75 points per category and 225 points across all categories combined.
The theme that received the highest combined score across all judges and categories won the grand prize: Best Overall Theme. After that, the top two themes in each category won first and second place category prizes. For more details on the judging process and criteria used review this post.

Most Comprehensive Category: Honorable Mention
While the Complete Website Theme by aStack did not win an official award, it came very close to doing so. We want to call out that it was an excellent entry scoring 61 out of 75 possible points in this category.
