What’s changing?
We’ve recently shared our vision for building an open ecosystem for the agent era here.
To reflect how developers, customers, and agents are actually building on HubSpot today, we’ve also updated our Developer Terms and Technology Partner Program Agreement. Including:
- Scope clarification - who the Developer Terms cover: New We’ve explicitly recognized that developers come in different flavors: customers building private integrations for their own use, individual developers building for a specific customer's benefit, and commercial developers building solutions for many customers at scale. All three are welcome. All three are covered by these terms.
- Agentic use coverage: Clarified We’ve made explicit in our Developer Terms that if a solution uses or offers agentic features, including MCP-based access, the same terms apply. This isn't a new restriction; it's a clarification that agents don't exist in a legal grey area.
- Customer Data ownership: Clarified We’ve added an explicit statement in our Developer Terms that customer data belongs to the customer. Not to HubSpot, and not to developers. This is how we've always operated. Now it's in the terms.
- AI/model training restriction: New We’ve added a restriction in the Developer Terms on using data accessed through the APIs to train, fine-tune, or improve AI or machine learning models, with a clear carve-out for legitimate single-customer use cases. In addition, we’ve updated our Technology Partner Program Agreement to explicitly exempt all technology partners in good standing from the new restriction. This restriction is not about limiting what you build. It's about ensuring that when developers build on HubSpot, the trust customers place in the platform, and in their integrations, is respected.

What do I need to do?
Review the updated terms and ensure you are in compliance with the new guidance. Developers may lose access if they violate these guidelines, as HubSpot reserves the right to suspend or revoke access to developer tools where use of our platform causes harm to HubSpot or to our customers.
When is it happening?
The Developer Terms and Technology Partner Program Agreement are updated and effective today, May 4, 2026.
