HubSpot Developer Slack

Code of Conduct

We want this Slack to remain a focused, welcoming space for builders, developers, technical folks, and anyone genuinely interested in learning more about building on the HubSpot platform.

This isn’t a place for soliciting, selling or discussing topics outside HubSpot development—and it’s not a HubSpot support channel. By committing to a Code of Conduct, we’re working together to ensure this community stays centered on collaboration, learning, and connection among builders.

Preamble

The HubSpot Developer Slack is a dedicated community space for builders, developers, technical professionals, and learners to connect, collaborate, and support each other in building on HubSpot’s developer platform. While much of the discussion naturally centers on software development, the rise of AI and new tools means that the community continues to welcome a broader range of people exploring and creating with HubSpot.

The goal of this community is peer-to-peer support, collaboration, and knowledge sharing—all in the spirit of helping one another make the most of HubSpot’s platform.

By using our Developer Slack, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct, HubSpot’s Acceptable Use Policy (as applicable), and Slack’s Acceptable Use Policy.

HubSpot reserves the right to enforce, interpret, and extend these guidelines for the betterment of the community.

Updates to this Code of Conduct

HubSpot may update this Code of Conduct at any time.
When updates occur, we will communicate them via the #hs-dev-updates channel. Because this Code anticipates common scenarios but cannot predict every situation, we may need to take action on violations not explicitly described here.

Community Standards

What’s Expected

Our guiding principle is simple: Use Good Judgment and have HEART.
This means contributing in ways that make the Developer Slack a safe, valuable, and welcoming space for everyone.

Be Humble

Share your work and ideas openly, but avoid being boastful or aggressively self-promotional. Give credit generously, and recognize that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.

Be Empathetic

Assume good intent, listen actively, and respond with compassion and respect—even when you disagree.

Be Adaptable

Stay curious and open to new approaches. Embrace change and continuous learning, especially as tools, technologies, and practices evolve in the age of AI.

Be Remarkable

Contribute in ways that add real value—share knowledge, help others, and spark thoughtful conversations. Strive to leave the community better than you found it.

Be Transparent

Communicate openly and honestly, and be clear about your intentions, limitations, and sources (including when using AI-generated content).

Community Standards

What's Not Allowed

Threats or Personal Attacks

No threats, harassment, or attacking individuals instead of ideas

Impersonation of HubSpot Employees

Zero tolerance for misrepresenting HubSpot staff

Discrimination or Harmful Language

No harmful language targeting personal attributes such as background, gender identity, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, physical traits, abilities, or any other personal trait.

Unwanted Direct Messages

Do not DM other members without their prior consent.

Promotions, Spam, and Off-Topic Content

No spamming, self-promotion, or off-topic posts. Content not related to HubSpot or relevant technologies may be removed.

Abuse of Voice/Video Calling

Calls must be consensual; accidental calls should be followed by an apology.

Undisclosed Use of AI Tools

Clearly disclose when sharing AI-generated content.

Encouraging Misconduct

Don’t push others to bend or break the rules.

Using Slack for Private Team Business

This Slack is for the community, not internal company communications.

Community Guidelines

  • Voice/Video Calls + Screen Sharing: Be respectful and mindful of what you share.
  • Slack Apps: Only Admins may install apps for the workspace.
  • Threaded Messages: Use threads to keep conversations organized and searchable.
  • GIFs and Emojis: Use responsibly and with awareness of context.
  • Code Formatting and Sharing: Use proper code blocks (or inline code formatting) when sharing code and post them within a thread to avoid cluttering the main channel and to keep conversations easy to follow.

HubSpot Support and Staff Participation

The Developer Slack is not a HubSpot support channel. For support, please visit help.hubspot.com or the community forums.

While some HubSpot employees may choose to participate here, they do so at their own discretion and as volunteers. Their availability will be inconsistent, and they will not always be able to answer your questions. Please do not rely on their presence for support.

As such, we discourage you from @mentioning HubSpot staff. Because employees are not here on a timetable, we ask that you only @mention them if you have received direct consent from them to do so. Their participation is an act of goodwill to enrich the community, not an obligation.

Content and Member Moderation

HubSpot reserves the right to moderate this Slack in order to maintain a safe, focused, and valuable community. This includes removing posts or messages and warning or permanently removing community members that:

  • Violate this Code of Conduct
  • Do not add value to the community
  • Promote or spam products, services, or content
  • Are not directly related to HubSpot or the technologies discussed in this Slack
  • Any other reasons we may identify to ensure the community remains welcoming and productive
